Anita Schmaltz is an artist, writer, photographer, musician and teacher. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College for Creative Studies and a Masters of Creative Writing degree from Wayne State University. She’s written hundreds of articles and reviews about the arts for the Metro Times. Since 2000, she’s been a creative writing teacher through InsideOut Literary Arts Organization. A founding member of the band Ass, Anita’s currently involved with the music project In Your Hand.

Audra Kubat lives in Detroit. She has released five records of music, two national releases, Million Year Old Sand 2003 and, Since I Fell in Love With the Music 2004 on Times Beach Records. She is currently working on her sixth record. She also hosts a local open mic and a monthly show (Dinner And A Show)at her home. Her currently untitled manuscript is forthcoming with whiteprintinc (10).

Carly Sachs is the author of the steam sequence (Washington Writer’s Publishing House) and the editor of the why and later (Deep Cleveland Press). She teaches creative writing at George Washington University and is currently an Arts Fellow at the Drisha Institute. Her poems have been published in Alimentum, Another Chicago Magazine, Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Coconut, Goodfoot, poemmemoirstory, Runes Review, and anthologized in Best American Poetry 2004, Regrets Only (Little Pear Press), The Bedside Guide to No Tell Motel, and Literary Lunch (Knoxville Writers’ Guild). Her second collection, (currently untitled) will appear in 2010 (white print inc.).

David Sands lives in the Detroit area. He has worked a variety of jobs, including professional cartoonist, traveling hardware representative, and line cook with the local chapter of Food Not Bombs. He helped publish a collection of poetry and art called All The Days After: Critical Voices In Art And Poetry, published by the Upside-down Culture Collective in 2003.

James Hart III lives in southwest Detroit. Currently he has published two manuscripts: the watchable book, Weightless Language Press (03) and white holes, Marick (06). Forthcoming, high-coup Slack Buddha Press, Spring (10). His work has appeared in Dispatch, volumes 6 (03) and 7 (04) Door Jamb Press, Past Tents Press on line anthology, and The Cafe Review (ME) summer of (06).. He is the director and editor of white print inc, a new avant-garde Detroit press dedicated to emerging and unknown writers, as well as the poetic  history of the cass corridor. He curates The  Woodward-Line series, currently Detroit’s only independent national venue. In (01) he corresponded with Jacques Derrida, who expressed great interest in his work.

James Keith La Croix has written professionally for diverse periodicals from the music industry technical journal (Music, Computers & Software) to Detroit’s alternative weekly (The Metro Times). His poetry has been published in the Detroit literary and arts anthology Dispatch (Vol. 8). His first collection, which is currently untitled, is forthcoming with white print inc (10).

Jhon Clark returned to Detroit in 1998 and is a member of two extended families of nearby artists and activists, the Trumbullplex and Detroit Summer. He gives his time to community organizing and renovating his home in the MLK Buchanan neighborhood. In 2003 he self-published and successfully released All The Days After, a post 9-11 anthology of critical voices in poetry and artwork with the Upside-down Culture collective. His first book, Being. Still (white print inc) was released in March 2008. His poetry has also appeared in Dispatch Vol. 8, will appear in the Fall issue of Poetry and he has one unpublished prior manuscript, I Am Not The One You Think You Are. Kim D. Hunter is Co-Director of the Woodward Line poetry series in Detroit. His poetry has appeared in a variety of journals including Triage, Hipology, The MetroTimes, Dispatch and Graffiti Rag. Past Tents Press published Hunter’s first collection of poems, borne on slow knives, in 2001. His work also appears in Rainbow Darkness: An Anthology of African-American Poetry (Miami University Press).

Mirinda Fleenary is 24 years old and currently resides in Detroit where she makes art out of debris. She is working on her fifth collection of poems. She received the Francis Barrett Creative Writing Award (08), The Larry Colter Poetry Prize ,(07),(08). In 2008 her poems There They Were and I Live Inside a Letter were given music and recorded by pianist/singer-songwriter Lene Storhaug. Her work is forthcoming (invisibles) white print inc. (10).

Ron Allen is an poet and playright who describes his work as a “concert of language.” The Detroit native employs intuitive configurations of language (i.e., image, trope, and metaphor) that invent new meaning and new structures for the exploration and expression of language arts, including poetry and theater. In 2007, Allen relocated to Los Angeles. His book is forthcoming (white print inc, 2010).

Scott Farrow has lived in or near Detroit since 1968. He is a musician, and plays in three Detroit-area bands, K-9, swis family robinson, and Terra Zoa. His written work has appeared in All The Days After: Critical Voices In Art And Poetry, published in 2003 by the Upside-down Culture Collective, and in a self-published zine entitled I Awoke.

L. A. Howe is a writer, artist, and editor who lives and works in Cincinnati.  She is the author of the chapbook, ENTROPIC EASTER (Little Scratchpad Books), which is now out of print.  She is a co-founder of Slack Buddha Press, co-editing Slack Buddha’s La Perruque series of chapbooks, which publishes the work of contemporary practitioners from the U.S. and the U.K., including poetry, prose, performance texts, and verbo-visual works.  Also a bookbinder, Howe’s artist’s and writer’s journals can be found at bengalight.etsy.com.

William R. Howe is a poet, book artist, publisher, editor, performance artist, and visual artist. He is a visiting assistant professor at Miami University of Ohio, in Oxford, Ohio. His work has appeared in Plantarchy, Mirage #4/Period(ical), FerrumWheel, The Gig, and others. His most recent book is translanations one from BlazeVox [books] (2009). He runs the Putituporbroadside series, and he and his wife, L.A. Howe, edit Slack Buddha Press. His second full-length collection Kid Stippler & the Sty-elf is forthcoming  (SlackBuddha) Spring/Winter (10). His third collection Sixes & Eights will appear with white print inc ( ‘10).

Bill Berkson started a series of little magazines and books under the Big Sky imprint. He was a professor of Liberal Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute and is a corresponding editor for Art in America. His recent books of poetry include Gloria (in a deluxe limited edition with etchings by Alex Katz), Our Friends Will Pass Among You Silently, and Goods and Services, most recently Portrait and Dream, new and selected poems (Coffee House Press (09), bringing 50 tears of writing together. A lecture of his will be published in a collection of essays with white print inc (11)

Ken Mikolowski is the author of three books of poetry: THANK YOU CALL AGAIN, little mysteries, and Big Enigmas.  He teaches poetry writing at the Residential College of the University of Michigan in Ann arbor.  Along with his late wife Ann he was the editor, publisher, and printer of The Alternative Press for over thirty years.
